    About

    Thomas E Wilson is a Professor of Physics and Physical Sciences at Marshall University. He conducts research in both pure and applied studies of coherent terahertz acoustic wave generation in silicon doping superlattices and associated phonon scattering in novel materials. The laser stimulus used to excite the hypersonic acoustic waves is a custom cavity-dumped optically-pumped molecular gas laser. Superconducting granular aluminum bolometers (fabricated at the West Virginia University White Hall Cleanroom) are used for phonon detection.
    While at Marshall, Wilson’s research has been funded (in chronological order) by NASA, the US Air Force of Scientific Research, the National Science Foundation, and the US Army Research Office.
