Monica Brooks

Dr. Monica García Brooks is assistant vice president for information technology, online learning and libraries with Marshall University. Brooks has been with Marshall University for 20 years, having started her career there as a member of the library faculty. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English from West Virginia University, a Master of Science in Library Science from the University of Kentucky, and an education specialist degree and doctorate in leadership studies from Marshall University.
Brooks is a member of the American Library Association, Association of College and Research Libraries, West Virginia Library Association, National Association of LULAC, and is currently serving on two boards of directors: the Pennsylvania Academic Libraries Consortium, Inc. and the Appalachian Studies Association. Dr. Brooks was selected for inclusion in Volume IV of The Latino Who’s Who.
She also is a member of Rotary International (Huntington Chapter) and is the current chair of the statewide West Virginia Virtual Learning Network. Brooks is the recipient of the Southern Growth Policy Board Regional Innovator Award and was an Appalachian Educational Laboratory Co-Venture Minority Research Fellow in 2004. Personal research interests include her family’s circus, La Carpa Garcia, 1914-1947, and its important contribution to Mexican-American theater in the Southwest region of the United States.
