Linda Spatig

Linda Spatig came to Marshall University after earning her Ed.D. from the University of Houston in 1986. She earned her M.Ed. from Western Washington State University, and her B.S. from Barton College.
Her skills as a qualitative researcher surfaced very quickly at Marshall and she found herself promptly becoming involved in a variety of projects. She has been enmeshed in a variety of projects involving Appalachia and Appalachian women in particular. Her focus has been on social context issues—gender, social class, race and/or gender.
Dr. Spatig helped put together a proposal to house the Appalachian Studies Association (ASA), a national organization to the Huntington campus. In collaboration with the ASA, her group brought yet another impressive project to Marshall with the award of a National Endowment for the Humanities challenge grant to advance the study of ethnicity and gender in Appalachia. She has also worked with Appalachian Educational Laboratory and with the West Virginia Prevention Resource Center in South Charleston.
