Fred Jay Krieg

Dr. Fred Jay Krieg, Professor of School Psychology, died March 27, 2014.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was an accomplished psychologist, educator, consultant and author. He held an undergraduate degree from Boston University, a master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, and two doctoral degrees from Ohio State University. A licensed clinical and school psychologist, he led a multi-city, multi-disciplinary mental health practice that at one time was the largest in West Virginia.

He acted as a consultant to school systems, businesses, and the legal community. An instrumental member of the National Association of School Psychologists, Krieg was awarded the National School Psychologist of the Year Award and served on the executive council. The recipient of numerous awards and honors, he was recognized by the governor as a Distinguished West Virginian; recognized by the governor of Kentucky as a Kentucky Colonel; served as president of the West Virginia Psychological Association; as president of the West Virginia School Psychologists Association. He also was named the West Virginia School Psychologist of the Year.
